My wife and I
recently visited Port of Prince, Haiti.
The center of the city is still in ruins – people everywhere trying to
sell something or some service in order to survive in the squalor. The out lying areas were poor and in bad
condition, but still better than the heart of the city. Advised by our
taxi driver in Grand Turk as to where to stay, we went to The Kingdom
Motel.
The entrance to The
Kingdom was down a debris-strewn street lined with small cement and tarpaper
houses. Trash was everywhere and open, dirty water ran down the middle of the
street. Inside the walls, guarded by a man with a shot gun, we found a
charming, clean motel with a restaurant, pool, air-conditioned rooms, and
happy people enjoying themselves.
What a GREAT metaphor
for God’s Kingdom. Surrounded by the
darkness of this world, God’s Kingdom is a Kingdom of well-being and joy and
safety. You enter through the gate of Jesus.
