Giving stuff to God

There are many traps and habits that most of us deal with at one time or another. Although giving stuff to God is linked to renunciation (often the first step), there is an ongoing process and defense of “giving stuff to God.” I’ve had to give alcohol to God forever.

There will be times when God quickens you to give something to him forever, or to give a specific thing to him for a time to take it out of you so you can withstand an imminent or approaching temptation. For example, God may request that you give violence to Him to protect you from a situation that will arise. And because violence gets relinquished to God, you will refuse to get into a fight that otherwise would have caused unpremeditated injuries or death.

Giving stuff to God is a key to your freedom. It is also the ongoing work of God in your life; it should comfort you that He is with you.

Cutting things off

Regarding spiritual connections such as the threads created through sexual relationships and lust (and many other ways), they are very real things in the spirit world. They continue to entangle and cripple their victims until they are cut off. I have had to sit alone in the presence of God and cut spirit ties while renouncing ungodly relationships (and desires and ambitions). I do this by saying, “In the name of Jesus Christ I cut off the spirit, sex and soul ties with___________________.”

Taking things off

The apostle Paul says to take off things—even the unredeemed man. I have found it useful to take off lust, anger, unforgiveness, and other things with my hands as I renounce them with my mouth. For example, I say: “I take off anger.” With my hands, I make motions as though I am taking off a sweater and I give it to God, or at times I just throw it down to the ground. In my experience, taking things off is a tool that God has given us.
