WE MUST CHOOSE HIM

One must decide to face the truth, the hurt, and the pain. One must choose to forgive the hurt and ask God into every part of it and all the resulting mess. One must give up the lies and identities and become what we really are: children of God through Jesus Christ. It has to be enough to be one of God’s kids, to be his son or daughter, to renounce the wrong impartation of family, identity, pleasures and ambitions and look to God as Father and become like him. Incidentally, as we become what we really are, we leave behind the old person who suffered/created the problem(s). In my opinion, to be willing to do this, we have to understand who God is and that we can be complete in Him. His personality is more than big enough for us to find a place of comfort in Him while being His and ourselves. He is not boring, limited, or unimaginative – nor are we in Him.

The process of becoming one of God’s kids and discovering our identity and purpose in Him is something the Father does (or tries to do) in the lives of everyone who comes to Him through Jesus. The process is much deeper in people with mangled lives and hearts. Hurt people have to leave their carefully constructed and constrained lives so they can venture out to become God’s beloved child. The wonderful thing is that being God’s kid is MUCH better than anything else, so there is no real loss; only the loss of a life that didn’t work.
